Six OSD Teacher Assistants Receive Scholarships to Pursue Teacher Certification

Camille White, Communications Specialist

Oxford, Mississippi — Through the support of several generous community donors, six Oxford School District teacher assistants have been awarded scholarships to pursue teacher certification through Teach Mississippi Institute 1 (TMI 1). This initiative is designed to support OSD staff members while strengthening the district’s future teacher workforce.

The scholarship recipients are Isabel David, Priscilla Gillom-Fisher, Tiffany Gulbranson, Jessica Holder, Caroline Kincaid, and Bridget Prine. Each of these teacher assistants currently serves students at schools across the district, including Oxford Early Childhood Center, Bramlett Elementary School, Central Elementary School, Oxford Intermediate School, and Oxford Middle School.

Additionally, each recipient holds a four-year degree and will complete TMI 1, an essential step in Mississippi’s alternative pathway to teacher certification. Completion of the program makes participants eligible for emergency teaching licenses and positions them as candidates for future classroom teaching opportunities across the district. During their first year of teaching, participants will complete Teach Mississippi Institute 2, which leads to full teacher licensure.

This shows what can happen when a community comes together to support our schools, said Bradley Roberson, Superintendent of the Oxford School District. Our teacher assistants make a real difference for students every day, and these sponsors are helping them take the next step toward becoming certified teachers. We are very thankful for their generosity and support.

Oxford School District extends its deepest appreciation to the community donors who sponsored these individuals, including Rick Addy, FNB Oxford, Jerry Jordan, Tannehill Carmean Law Firm, J.W. McCurdy, and Dicky Scruggs.

Partnerships like these are what make Oxford special, strengthening connections between schools and the community. Later this semester, each sponsor will have the opportunity to meet with the teacher assistant they supported and see firsthand the impact of their investment in future educators.
